I was born in Calcutta, India in 1978. The Weber family adopted me about a year later. As a young child, I became very interested in the arts. I used to draw for hours, much to the dismay of many of my teachers. I also enjoyed writing fiction. In 3rd grade, Mrs. Ramadan sent me to the young authors conference. That was the first time I had combined my joy of drawing with my love of writing. The following year, Mr. Hilberg requested that I create a book for his son Clinton. If I remember correctly, I never finished it.
I didn't do very much writing for some time after that, other than required assignments. As I entered high school, I discovered many opportunities to explore new art forms. I began to channel my creative energy into singing and acting. I decided to audition for my high school's jazz and concert choirs. Much to my surprise, I got into both. I also performed in several plays. I discovered that all the art forms I had ever studied came together in the theater. Working with other people towards a common artistic goal was both exciting and very challenging. In addition to all of this, I found a little time to draw for the high school newspaper.
In September 1996, I began my studies at Seattle University. I continued to perform in plays, sing in choirs, and draw cartoons for the Seattle University Spectator, but I had a new idea. I thought it might be fun to get involved in film. I was primarily interested in acting, but once I realized that acting opportunities might be hard to come by, I attempted to create them for myself by writing screenplays. After I had written several scripts, I remembered how much I enjoyed writing, and I no longer did it to create acting opportunities; I did it because I loved writing. A couple of years after I graduated from college, I decided to write a children's book called Invisible Island.
This is a condensed version of my life, but I hope you see how the arts have played a big role in the person I have become. I hope to continue writing books, and screenplays, to act in plays, create films, draw pictures, and sing in the shower. As long as I have the arts in my life, I should be able to see the Invisible Island.
